People and Etiquette: skills checklist
Social skills are the ones people notice first and forgive least, yet nobody teaches them directly. Introductions, toasts, thank-you notes and sympathy cards all follow simple structures that are easy to learn and remove most of the anxiety from the moment.
This category covers meeting people and keeping a conversation going, giving a toast or a best man speech, writing condolence and thank-you notes, tipping in the US, basic table manners, apologizing so it actually repairs things, being a good houseguest, and what to do and say at a funeral. Each page gives you the structure, the words to use and the phrases to avoid.
The last skill in the category is the most important one when things get tense: how to calm a heated situation and leave safely. It is about distance, a calm voice and a way out, and it deliberately teaches no physical technique. If anyone threatens violence or shows a weapon, the right move is to get away and call 911.
